I liked this place. It was a little more upscale than what I was expecting, but that's okay. I had the tuna steak, my sister had a beef steak, and my mother had two appetizers as her meal: smoked salmon, and she crab soup. Everything was very tasty. I especially loved the wasabi sauce that came on my tuna. Of course, we couldn't skip dessert! Sis and I had the key lime pie with Oreo crust (oh, my! This is a must!) Mom had blueberry cobbler a la mode which was most delicious as well. My only regret is that we didn't have more people in our party so that we could try more dessert offerings. The staff was friendly and the service was very good. This place is pricey, but would be perfect for a couple celebrating an anniversary or any other special occasion.

We had a great evening. I don't understand the earlier review about slow service. Ours was prompt and friendly, even on a crowded Saturday night. Casual ambiance - think supper club without the naugahyde booths. Grouper and pompano were expertly prepared. The soggy cake dessert was delicious.

Delicious!! My husband and I each had the filet and it was "cut with a fork" tender and perfectly cooked. My daughter had shrimp and pasta, and it was wonderful. The waitstaff was attentive. We never had extra plates or empty glasses. She-crab soup was divine!

I can't here with great anticipation after reading all the great reviews but I am sorry to say it was not as good as I had hoped. Not to say that it was bad but for the prices charged it just didn't live up to the hype for our meal. I specifically asked about the best fish to have and the waitress assured me they were all good so without any guidance I piecked the Halibut and my wife had the grouper. While both were fair it just didn't live up to the expectations we had. Service was also more of what I would expect from an Applebees than a nice upscale high end restaurant. The service felt rushed with them jumping into the table to refill water glasses etc every 2 minutes even though they were not really in need of refilling. It was just more of an annoyance then what I would call good service. I need to say again that nothing was particularly bad it just didn't compare to other similar priced restaurants such as Roashfish cornbread for example

Food tasted good but had the microwaved flair to it. Service was poor. No sweet tea.

All fresh food and very friendly staff. The tomato pie is oh soo tasty. We liked it because it was very casual and laid back. All the local folks we met recommended it as well.

Found this place on the web and so glad we did. It wasn't as casual as expected on the island, but we were and didn't feel out of place. The atmosphere was a little dated, but the quality and taste of the food made up for it. The South Carolina Tomato Bake appetizer was amazing. Our entrees of fresh fish with their superb sauces (and blackened) were great. The service was good and you shouldn't be disappointed.

Wonderful restaurant find in Hilton Head! Service was great and the food was absolutely fantastic. I ordered the Low Country Kabobs for dinner and it was probably the best thing I had to eat the entire time I was in HHI. Would definitely go back again!

We adore the Sea Grass Grille. We've made a habit of including a meal there during our annual late winter/early spring week in HH, and it's among our top two or three restaurants on the Island. Last night I had superb grilled tuna, and finished it off with the bananas foster tart. Make sure you get a table where you can clearly see the action in the well-run kitchen. Moderate prices, excellent food quality, competent and mature wait staff. No wonder the place is always packed.

My wife and I had a very nice dinner at Sea Grass. It's location is where Charleys used to be. They started us with biscuits and sliced and slightly toasted french bread. My wife 's shrimp and pasta appetizer was plenty and I had the grilled tuna. The steak was a little on the thin side, but rare inside as requested and the wasabi butter was just what it needed. Service was quite good. At least three people looked in on us during the evening. Sitting near the open kitchen was also a plus. We will go there again on our next trip to Hilton Head.

We enjoyed the Sea Grass Grill. Our only negative is that the Grouper Piccata a lemon taste that was too strong. Perhaps the fish absorbs more lemon flavor than a chicken breast or veal cutlet. Everything else was great.

We make an annual trip to HHI and this has become a yearly must-visit for my wife's birthday. Quite simply, it's the best of Hilton Head. Service is wonderful and the small restaurant is intimate and the ambience is lovely. They really know how to cook fish & seafood, but meats are a pleasure too (past specials have included mouth-watering sweetbreads and duck). This is the former location of Charlie's L'Etoille Vert, and initially we followed Charlie's to its new location, until we realized that Sea Grass was even better. Pricey, but worth it for a special occasion. The value is actually good considering you get a beautiful salad as part of your meal. Desserts are fabulous, for those so inclined.

Why only one star? Let me count the ways beginning with the food in order of disappointment: (1) biscuits both savory and sweet had distinct burnt tastes (and appearance, (2) vichyssoise was watery with a strong onion flavor, (3) salads were dressed with an off-tasting balsamic (I think), (4) my wife's salmon with avocado mousse was overwhelmed by the insipid mousse, and (5) side dishes of rice -- a very small mound of flavorless white rice -- and mixed vegetables -- unimaginative green beans, carrot sticks, and roasted (probably canned) red peppers. To top it off, the hostess (owner?) was so loud talking with customers at the far end of the room that we could hear every word. Nice wine list, though, and fairly priced. HHI badly needs some moderately-priced restaurants with carefully-prepared food and this doesn't even come close.

This is a solid three star in any major city. For Hilton Head, it is more of a four star. Food always is very good, typical HHI service, casual but not shorts and sandals, all around consistent. VERY good for lunch.

The food was probably three-star worthy, but the service was pretty bad, so I definitely would choose another seafood option on the island over Sea Grass Grille in the future. Food: The bread on the table was really good--what a great start. I opted for she crab soup and their famous tomato pie. I asked for them together, but they came out separately (which turned out to be fine). The she crab soup was in the okay to pretty good range. I'm really tough on judging she crab soup, so not being "great" isn't really a minus. I was disappointed in the tomato pie because there weren't really very many tomatoes. I saw that there would be a lot of cheese in the description (and I love cheese, so two thumbs up). What could be wrong with heaps of fresh SC tomatoes, layered with cheese in a pie crust? Sounds like heaven. And it was pretty good, except for the fact that the cheese to tomato ratio was 3:1! Seriously, I'd say there was only half a tomato in the large slice of pie, and the rest of it was crust and cheese--it was a lot heavier than I anticipated. I would have much preferred to share it four ways than have to eat the whole thing (or leave part on the table). The people who had fish said it was really good--most people preferred the grouper to the special (I think everyone else ordered one of those two things). Service: When we came in, they had us down for a reservation for two, instead of six, even though we'd confirmed six on the phone. They fixed it though, so off to a good start! However, the service was really slow and the pace of the service was off. It seemed like we waited on our food for a long time. And our drinks came out at really different times. Not like a 2-3 minute pause to get a bottle of wine, but like ten minutes when some people had drinks and others were waiting. We had to wait a good long while to get someone's attention to bring butter when there was none with the bread. Then, the not-waitress who brought the food to the table was markedly rude. Not just a little bit, but actually screaming and frustrated when she asked who ordered what and someone wasn't paying attention. As in rolling her eyes and sighing. I know it must be frustrating, but there isn't a reason to be rude to guests (especially when it was almost 9pm by this time, so the place was half empty). We ended up laughing about it (at least there was entertainment). The Ambiance: Definitely not a swanky feel. The crowd seemed older, although there were some families (mainly with older children--think teens, twenties). It's casual, which is fine. And it looks like it hasn't been updated in twenty years, which again is fine. It sort of feels like you're in a friend's grandma's home and she's cooking you dinner.

This was, by far, the best meal I have had while visiting HHI!! Everything from the server, Cheryl, to the food was superb! Highly recommend it to anyone wanting a casual, yet tasty meal.

Very nice and cozy. Chad is a very talented Chef and puts his heart in this place. I had his upside down chicken pot pie. It was very tasty.

While the food was decent (you have to try the tomato pie and the biscuits are scrumptious), the ambiance was a little off. The wait staff was complaining about something to each other all night long as they walked by our table to the kitchen. They weren't even trying to hide their snide comments and were using loud voices. It was really a mood killer. The waitress came to our table stating that the plates were hot and ended up burning my friends shoulder with one of them. She apologized profusely and gave her a glass of wine on the house to make up for it. but it was insane to have plates this hot. it was like they cooked the food on them. the table increased by 10 degrees once they were put in front of us. So we all had to wait a few minutes for the steam to stop rising off of them to try our dishes. So while decent, I would try somewhere else next time I'm on the island to see what else is out there.

Food was great and service was top notch. Our waitress was informative and answered questions about different dishes. Had the pecan crusted sea trout and wild mushroom tart. Phenomenal . Brie app was good with the house made pitas seasoned with special blend of spices. Caramel and key lime and Oreo crust dessert...oh my. The creme brûlée was creamy and decadent. Nice wine selection. Bravo to the chefs.

Food was great, but waitress was a huge biznatch and was unkempt on top of that. She brought us an accidental extra salad, and then took it away after we started eating it... Too expensive for the terrible service. Food alone is worthy of three or four stars.
